Words for Wednesday - On Fairy Tales

If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales. If you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairy tales. - Albert Einstein

Which also reminds me of one of my all time favorite quotes:
Fairy tales do not tell children the dragons exist. Children already know that dragons exist. Fairy tales tell children the dragons can be killed. - G.K. Chesterton
So, read any good fairy tales to your children lately? Today, after putting the youngest three (Fen is here) down for a nap my two oldest girls and I sat on our couch and read poems to each other. Maybe next time we'll break out our favorite fairy tales instead.

P.S. Happy Birthday to my sister Lisa! She's catching up to me in age. I expect one of these days she'll tie it up.

I was just thinking about fairy tales. I was telling some to Lucy yesterday since she wanted to potty but not sit still. Then tonight I was reading about charlotte mason's opinion on fairy tales and finding myself agreeing. Of course, my versions are very abbreviated but I can't wait to share some of my favorites with her - and learn new ones. There are lots of ones she mentioned that I am not familiar with.
