Weekend Links - December 17, 2011

1. Still finishing your Christmas shopping? Here's a great list of Jane Austen inspired gifts for 2011.

2. What can I say? I love sarcasm: How to Start a Blog. Instead of "Candid Diversions" I could be "The Sassy Antlers."

3. Why Speaking Well of Your Spouse is So Important. I think I do OK at this but I know I can always do better. Just because it bears repeating, here goes again: my husband is amazing and I am incredibly lucky to be his wife / best friend / and all the other things I get to be with and for him.

4. Sad news: Russell Hoban, author of the Frances books, died this week. The Frances books are some of our favorite read alouds. Bread and Jam for Frances, Bedtime for Frances, Best Friends for Frances, A Baby Sister for Frances...every child should have these books. I think we own them all. I know Bread and Jam for Frances is on constant request around here. Thank you, Russell Hoban, for that brilliant little badger and all the equally brilliant stories about her.

5. Always a good reminder: Stop! Look Beyond Your Screen. Put the phones away. Log off. Find that off button. (I promise you there is one!) I love this line from Cay's post:
You only have one life! Don't live it encased in a screen.
Blogs, FB, Twitter, Pinterest...they all add so much to my life. But they are not all there is to my life.

Pins of the week:

Isn't that one of the most cheerful wreaths you've ever seen?!

The knobs on our kitchen cabinets are in dreadful condition. As pricier furnishings are not really in our budget right now, I'd love to do something like this to spruce them up:

Outfit of the week:
Love the monochrome but still sparkling palate. Must.control.boot.envy.

I have been boot shopping for months now. I just can't find what I want at the price I want to pay. I'm really hoping for some good "After Christmas" sales. Some folks have given me spending money for Christmas and it's just itching to be spent on some boots.

OK, I kid. The money is not actually itching. That would be gross.

Thanks for the reminder to speak well of our husbands! I need to do more of this, in public, too!

I got my boots online from DSW. Since I couldn't try them on, I went off the reviews, and both pairs fit great. I wear them ALL the times.

If you find a pair you like on there, I have $15 in rewards certificates you can use. :)

I promise to be candid and you can be too. Blogging is best when it's a conversation. Thanks for taking the time to read this post and respond. I enjoy hearing what you have to say.
