Favorite Books for Thanksgiving

I wrote two separate posts last year about our favorite Thanksgiving picture books. You can find the first post here and the second here.

If I had to pick favorites I'd say that these are our top 3:

1.Cranberry Thanksgiving by Wende & Harry Devlin. Classic! The girls made sure to remind me to check it out at the library today. Maybe this will be the year we make the cranberry bread...

2. The Thanksgiving Story by Alice Dalgliesh. It's one of our traditions to read this over several nights leading up to Thanksgiving.

3. Over the River and Through the Wood. A Thanksgiving Poem by Lydia Maria Child. Beautiful illustrations and a favorite poem / song.

Two new to us books that we picked up at the library today:
1.Sometimes it's Turkey - Sometimes It's Feathers by Lorna Balian. This looks like fun - sometimes preparations for Thanksgiving don't turn out just right.

2. Thanksgiving Poems selected by Myra Cohn Livingston. Includes many new to me poems and a few old favorites.

These books help us to give Thanksgiving its due when the entire world seems to be rushing straight into the Christmas season. Do you have favorite Thanksgiving books?  Katey from Having Fun at Home is hosting a Thanksgiving book link-up. I can't wait to see if our library has a copy of one of her recommendations - N.C. Wyeth's Pilgrims by Robert San Souci looks amazing! I'm linking this post up to hers and hope you will do the same.

The Thanksgiving Story looks like one we will have to find at the library. Is it a Caldecott book? Thanks for linking up today!
