From the Commonplace Book

We spend our lives trying to better our situations, whereas the trick is to improve who we are.
-Cathy Breslin & Judy May Murphy
Hmm. I can see how both might happen at the same time. For example: we are trying to improve our bathroom situation and the process is improving who we are (more patient, less fixated on material things or perfection...).

And a bonus thought:
Our life is what our thoughts make it. - Marcus Aurelius
